Expeditionary Learning

What is Expeditionary Learning?

Good question! Expeditionary learning involves rigorous academic work centered on compelling topics that are both interesting and relevant to high school students. At different times, subjects are taught together; for example, math and science might focus on a common topic and work together. Teachers help set up fieldwork experiences, taking students off campus to gain rich knowledge that can be applied to the learning expedition. Not only do teachers work together to create a culture of teamwork, but students are fully immersed into the concept of Crew - meaning that none of us are passengers - building community is of the highest priority!

"Expeditionary Learning schools inspire the motivation to learn, engage teachers and students in new levels of focus and effort, and transform schools into places where students and adults become leaders of their own learning. We provide a model that challenges students – even those starting with low skill levels – with high level tasks and active roles in the classroom. This model succeeds in urban, rural or suburban schools and at every grade level." - www.elschools.org
