Hello:
I want to use this opportunity to personally thank you for the active support you may have demonstrated in your child's educational process at Northpoint.  Perhaps you recall that during the interview we were clear about the need for parental involvement in this school.  That might be in the form of any of the following:
  • editing assignments
  • assisting with projects
  • volunteering in classrooms
  • checking grades on the JumpRope login
  • emailing teachers for progress info
  • attending fieldwork
  • asking your child about homework-and following up
  • providing a breakfast and lunch for a growing teen
  • paying fees in a timely manner
  • making sure homework and projects are completed
Today is a tough weather day for some folks.  While we never want to encourage absences (they do cost the school money) we understand that sometimes it has to happen.  But if you have chosen to not bring your child to school today I urge the following-
  • limit screen time (TV, games, geeking out)
  • log in or email teachers to check for makeup work
  • encourage some dedicated time to school work
  • ask about final projects
  • offer a book or magazine for recreational reading
  • ask them to clean their room (okay, forget that one!!)
We want your support in making Northpoint Expeditionary Learning Academy an excellent educational process for your child.  It is imperative that we work together to support the college preparatory and life skills application of this school.  Free time is important, but right now your child's job is SCHOOL.  Please help us make that a success for them!
Thanks for hearing these words of encouragement as we work as a team to work with your teen!
Sincerely,
The Staff at Northpoint Expeditionary Learning Academy

Families and Friends of Northpoint Seniors,

Please consider attending one or both of the following fundraisers to help support our seniors traveling to Washington, DC in January. Each student has selected a topic related to citizenship that they will research further by
visiting our nation's capital where they will meet with government officials, business leaders, and non-profit professionals. Topics range from domestic animal advocacy, Asperger's Syndrome, business ethics, to police funding cuts.

The 2012 Winter Wilderness will be held on January 19-20 at Camp Pearlstein.

This year our Winter Wilderness will include an opportunity for parents to be involved in Crew activities.  All students will depart from Northpoint campus at 9:00 AM on January 19.  Camp activities will begin promptly upon arrival.  Students will be with their crew and buddy crew for various events during this overnight.  Parents are encouraged to join up for the entire time, or any portion of the activities (by RSVP).  Students will be sleeping in cabins, in beds, supervised by Crew Leaders and parent volunteers.  Some meals will be prepared for the group, and some will be prepared by the group. Activities will include challenges, rock climbing, large games, crafts, singing, skits, campfire, winter hiking and winter Olympics. The supply list will be provided soon and there is no fee for this activity.  It is a mandatory portion of the second semester at Northpoint and will be a terrific way to welcome any new students to your Crew.  All students will be back on campus by 3:30 on Friday January 20.  Regular second semester classes begin on Monday January 23.

Hello all:

I hope the snowfall and beauty of our second winter storm is finding you in a warm place!  It has certainly put us all back on our toes for snow day/delay and bus alerts.  I will use this time to remind you of our procedure.

Our school will follow the lead of area districts.  If they determine that their buses cannot pass safely, then they call a snow delay (2 hours- 10:30 start) or a cancellation.  Their announcements get to the radio, tv and internet first.  Then we contact those entities also. So watch/listen and go with what you hear.

Because our morning bus must come from Ashfork we are also subject to their weather decisions. If they choose to not run the bus, then our bus riders will need an alternative plan to get to school.  We will not cancel or delay based on the weather in Ashfork or roads between
here and there.  However, we will get notice out as soon as possible and Ashfork also puts it on the radio stations when they cancel/delay.

Friday's are a little different.  Although our classes are not in session- we have many students who are taking responsibility for their learning (An EL Design Principle) and coming in for extra help.  That may be through Friday School, math tutoring or just on their own.   If
there is a cancellation or delay, we will use the district decision. However, it is possible that teachers will still be here and students could come in to work.  That will need to be arranged by email individually.

In summary-
SNOW DELAY- called by area district- announced on tv, radio, internet
SNOW CANCELLATION- called by area district- announced on tv, radio, internet
MORNING BUS CANCELLATION- called by Ashfork schools, announced on tv, radio, internt
FRIDAY CANCELLATION- called by area district- other arrangements made individually

Thanks for your patience and effective communication!  Check our website regularly for events, activities and assignments!  Email crew leaders and teachers for direct information.  The more we dialogue about academic success- the louder the message is to your son/daughter!
